the country will basically realize rural and agricultura

al modernization and ensure that both urban and rural residents enjoy equal public services.

By the middle of this century, digital villages will be completely built nationwide to advance rural revitalization.

To fulfill such targets, the country will accelerate the constructi

on of IT infrastructures in rural areas, upgrading rural internet facilities and information services.

More efforts will be made to boost the rural digital economy, with wider use of digital techno

logies in agriculture and the development of e-commerce and various emerging creative industries in rural regions.

While providing more support for rural technological innovation, the co

untry will strengthen ecological protection in rural areas with digital technologies.

od films. This fact is attested by Chinese films’ soari

ring box office and increasingly impressive performance at major international film

festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival.

But there is still a wide gap between the Chinese film industry and the Eu

ropean and US movie industries, be it in the art of filmmaking or in the publicity strat

egies and methods. That some Hollywood filmmakers spend nearly half of their budget on publicity and ad

vertising should give Chinese filmmakers some food for thought, especially since some Chinese movies, de

spite being well made and highly rated by movie critics and viewers alike, fail at the box office.

A wine-maker needs to get people to know his wine is good to make his business a success, so do Chinese filmmakers.

It was Washington’s decision to recognize Jerusalem

as the capital of Israel and Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights that fueled the massive protests from Palest

inians and the Arab world and deepened the enmity between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The Trump administration has closely aligned itself with Israel’s right wing, and on Su

nday night, US President Donald Trump reinforced this when he tweeted his “100%” su

pport for Israel’s actions, blaming the violence on “terrorist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad”.

Israel and Hamas have fought three wars since the Islamic militant group s

eized control of Gaza from Western-backed Palestinian forces in 2007, but its leader Ism

ail Haniyeh said Hamas is “not interested in a new war” and is ready to “return to the state of calm” if Israel stop

s its attacks “and immediately starts implementing understandings about a dignified life”. In the past, Hamas has hal

ted attacks in return for the easing of an Egyptian and Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza.

China releases report on progress, contributions and pro

China on Monday published a report elaborating on the progress, contributions and prospects of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The document, prepared by the office of the leading group for promoting the BRI, was released ahead

of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to be held from April 25 to 27 in Beijing.

The Belt and Road Initiative is an initiative for peaceful

development and economic cooperation, rather than a geopolitical or military alliance, said the rep

ort. “It is a process of open, inclusive and common development, not an exclusionary bloc or a ‘China club’.”

“It neither differentiates between countries by ideology nor plays the zero-sum

game. Countries are welcome to join the initiative if they so will,” according to the report.

The BRI has turned ideas into actions and vision into reality, and i

tself into a public product widely welcomed by the international community, the report said.

China’s foreign trade climbs in 2019’s first quarter

China’s foreign trade climbed 3.7 percent year-on-year to 7.01 trillion

yuan ($1.04 trillion) in the first quarter of this year, customs data showed on Friday.

During this period exports grew 6.7 percent to 3.77 trillion yuan, while imports increased 0.3 percent to 3.24 tri

llion, according to the General Administration of Customs.Editor’s Note: The United Stat

The steady expansion of trade can be attributed to stable domestic economic growth and an

increase in import and export prices, customs authority spokesman Li Kuiwen told reporters.

Trade with the United States stood at 815.86 billion yuan

between January and March, down 11 percent year-on-year, according to the data.

So, I think I won’t get married until I’m 33,” Gray said

Like Gray, more women and men in the US are single — more than 45 percent of all Americans age 18 or older, the US Census Bur

eau reported in 2017 — and the number of single households around the world also is increasing.

Singles make up about 14.6 percent — about 200 million — of Chi

Sweden has the highest rate of people staying single, 51 percen

t of all households, according to 2017 data from the European Union’s Eurostat.

Sweden is followed by Denmark, Finland and Germany, which all have more than 40 percent one-person households.

The never-married population age 16 years and over in England a

Prime Minister May is seeking a fourth vote on her

Withdrawal Agreement, which has been rejected by the parliament three times since January.

The first round of unbinding “indicative vote” was conducted on March 27, in which none o

f MPs’ eight proposed options secured a majority, but among them, the proposed options about a custom

s union with the Europan Union and a referendum on any deal received most support from the lawmakers.

Many of those eight options have returned for round two, but some have been replaced with new alternatives.

The prime minister, who is struggling to hold her party together, warned Sunday night that she

faced resignation and a split in the Conservative Party if she agrees to pursue a “soft” Brexit this week.

The British cabinet is expected to meet on Tuesday morning to consider how to proceed

with the vote outcomes amid speculation about possible resignations, a general election or change of Tory leader.

But a customs union would ensure UK businesses can cont

ontinue to trade with the EU, and would solve many of the problems that bedevil May’s deal. In partic

ular, it would remove the need for customs posts and border checks between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

There’s a good chance a withdrawal agreement that included a

customs union pledge would be approved by Parliament, and welcomed by the EU.

But some hard-line Conservative Party lawmakers have written to May, insisting that she not agree to a Brexit extension beyond M

ay 22, which would force the U.K. to take part in the next European Parliament election, the Sun newspaper reported.

The letter urged the prime minister to bring her Brexit deal back to Parliament for

a fourth vote, with the threat of a general election if it is rejected again, the Sun said.

China will continue to increase railway freight volume, upgrade its w

Li, who inspired the boom after winning Asia’s first major

title at the 2011 French Open, warned that increased funding and exposure for the sport does not guarantee Grand Slam champions will follow.

“After the US Open (in August), players don’t need to travel overseas with tournam

ents held at home one after another,” said Li, who is an ambassador for her hometown Wuhan Open in Hubei province.

“However, for the younger players nowadays they are likely to squander the opportuni

ties that we had to fight hard to earn, because everything comes easier and more frequently.

“They have to focus on the game itself rather than the exposure or expectations off

the court to really improve one event at a time and benefit from the momentum.”

When Li turned pro in 1999 China had only two entry-level tournam

ents. Now the Women’s Tennis Association calendar features nine Chinese tourn

aments, including the premier mandatory China Open in Beijing and year-end WTA Finals in Shenzhen.
